Tellicherry is a populated and a well-known town located in the Indian state of Kerala. It boasts a rich history as this town was the seat of authority for the different dynasties that ruled over the land of Tellicherry. The town of Tellicherry was the hub of trade in India with the Arab, Jews, Europe, and the Chinese. Due to its location close to the coast, the British developed the town effectively.
Tellicherry is set along the shoreline of Arabian Sea. It is elevated 10 feet above the sea level and has a major portion of land as flat terrain. These terrains spread across an area of 23 sq. km. and the River Mayyazahi flows through them. The climate of the region of Tellicherry is described as humid. It faces scorching summers with the median mercury level of 39°C and mild winters with a median temperature of 23°C.
There are amazing places of interest located in Tellicherry and are swarmed by visitors on a large scale. Some remarkable places in Tellicherry are St. Theresa’s Cathedral, Kottayam Shiva Temple, Porkali Bhagavathi Temple etc. The famous martial art Kalayari Pattu is practiced and taught here.
