Mamallapuram, also known by the name of Mahabalipuram, is a beautiful town located in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu. The ruling dynasty that reigned over this town was Pallava. Mamallapuram has its historical connections with the times of Mahabharata. The war and other events of Mahabharata are carved in the complex of the group of temples in Mamallapuram.
Perched on the shoreline of Bay of Bengal, the beautiful town of Mahabalipuram is elevated at a height of 40 feet above the sea level. It spans a gross area of 20 sq. km. where the majority of the land is a rough plain. The climate of the region of Mamallapuram is described as tropical in nature. It faces warm summers with an average temperature of 37°C and cool winters with the median temperature of 15°C. It receives an ample amount of rainfall during the monsoon season.
Mamallapuram is the home to plentiful intricate temples. All these shrines were constructed in the foregone times and have not their charm till date. Shore Temple, Cave Temple, Pancha Ratha structure, Tiger Caves, and the beach of Mahabalipuram are the prime attractions of this place.
